Social security is everybody’s business. It has a big impact on our daily life, protecting our families, relatives, children and elderly people and preserving health and employment. Social security is widely recognised as a basic need. Moreover, it contributes a lot to social justice, without which durable peace would be impossible.
It quickly became clear that the development of social security as a contributor to social justice should be seen within the framework of international cooperation. In order to enable such cooperation, ISSA was founded, in 1927.
Prevention of industrial accidents and occupational diseases is an important part of the ISSA actions. ISSA-C’s mission is to set up international actions aimed at preventing industrial accidents and occupational diseases in the construction industry:

ISSA Construction Section (ISSA-C)
Its members are from 22 countries. The section is managed by a Bureau in which the following organizations have a mandate:

    1. Caisse Régionale d’Assurance Maladie d’Ile de France (F)
    2. Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Bau-Berufsgenossenschaften (D)
    3. Arbouw (NL)
    4. CNAC-NAVB (B)
    5. IST (P)
    6. CPWR (USA)

ISSA-C’s mission is to set up international actions aimed at preventing industrial accidents and occupational diseases in the construction industry, such as:

    1. Supporting studies and research
    2. Promoting exchanges between experts and people with practical experience
    3. Mobilising specialists to develop strategies, methods and new analysis methods and means of action.

In a concrete manner, this is translated into the following initiatives:

    1. Organising international symposia, roundtables and technical meetings
    2. Gathering and spreading information on the prevention of industrial accidents and occupational diseases in the construction industry
    3. Promoting research on the prevention of industrial accidents and occupational diseases in the construction industry
    4. Cooperating with other international and regional organizations that develop actions aimed at the prevention of industrial accidents and occupational diseases in the construction industry
